Job TitlePerform mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Work on projects as assigned, following established procedures. Drive school bus as a substitute driver when necessary.QualificationsClass B CDL or Class A CDL with Passenger and School Bus Driver EndorsementsTexas Bus Driver CertificationAbility to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervisionAbility to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repairAbility to lift heavy equipment and vehicle partsAbility to pass alcohol and drug testAbility to pass bus driver physical examAbility to pass required bus driver safety trainingAcceptable driving recordAbility to operate busTwo years experience as mechanicMust provide own hand tools to repair a wide variety of vehiclesMajor Responsibilities and DutiesMaintenance and RepairsUse diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.Perform mechanical repairs as needed.Ability to complete major repairs.Do welding and minor bodywork.Diagnose A/C systemsDiagnose electricalAssist the mechanics helper make minor repairs to equipment as part of the preventive maintenance program and provide training for the mechanics helper, when needed.Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedules.SafetyOperate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.OtherMaintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service.Operate buses and other vehicles as needed.Work irregular hours as needed.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Equipment Used:Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks and lift equipment, school buses and other district vehicles.Working Conditions:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts.
